    Zinfandel

    Croatia - - No Comments.

Homeland of famous Zinfandel is Croatia.
“Zin”, a dark-skinned red wine grape variety, is name “mysterious grape” .

It arrived in the United States from Europe in the early years of the 19th Century. It had a big success in California, where is still one of the most popular grape variety.

DNA research carried out in California in the 1990s confirmed that Zinfandel is identical to Italy’s Primitivo. But this research opened up an even older chapter of the variety’s history. We know that Primitivo arrived in Italy via Croatia, where it was known by Crljenak Kastelanski or Tribidrag.

Mike Grgich of Grgich Hills Estate Winery talks about zinfandel grapes beginning in his native Croatia.

    Happy finger

    Croatia - - No Comments.

    Happy finger
In Split, we believe, that big finger in the left foot of bishop Grgur is happy. Whatever we plans to do (pass exam, get married, divorced, ect) we go first to touch his finger :-)

Bishop Grgur, before church reform, fought for holy mass to be conducted in an old Slovenian language.
The sculpture of Grgur was made by Ivan Mestrovic – the most famous Croatian sculptor and a very good friend of Rodin.
When you are in Split – you can visit his house, it is only a 15 minute walk from Diocletian’s Palace. You can also visit his studio in Zagreb.

So Split has one of the happy places in the world!

The author of the statue was Ivan Mestrovic. His home today is the gallery of his sculptures. I recommend you to see this incredible place.
